Cars without proper maintenance cost $2 billion per year

Car maintenance is one of those things that people tend to push aside when they are on a tight budget. It's hard to value things like changing the brake pads or fixing a broken headlight immediately when there are other bills to pay.

However, the Car Care Council did a study and found that cars that people have neglected are involved in a massive amount of accidents every year, racking up an estimated financial cost of $2 billion per year.

It's clear that skipping out on maintenance may not save any money in the long run. It could only increase the bills and it could even land other people in the hospital in multi-car accidents.

Additionally, it's been pointed out by experts that skipping the maintenance usually leads to higher bills down the line because the car simply wears out faster. For example, not replacing the brake pads, which are quite cheap, can lead to rotor damage. Replacing the rotors and the brake pads costs far more, and that's not even taking into account the risk of the brakes failing and causing an accident.

Another example involves oil changes, which are often skipped when that dash light comes on. However, the cost of getting oil changes is only $120 per year, on average. The cost of replacing an engine that burns out if those changes are skipped is about $4,000.

Did another driver fail to take proper care of his or her vehicle, leading directly to an accident in which your car was damaged and you were injured? If so, you need to know how to seek compensation for those costs in Illinois.
