One Dead, Multiple Other Injuries in Funeral Procession Accident

One person was killed and another seven were injured and taken to local area hospitals, with four in serious to critical condition, following a car accident that involved a funeral procession and multiple vehicles.

According to reports, the crash occurred in the early afternoon hours in Morgan Park at 109th and Vincennes. There were three vehicles involved in the accident, including a Buick LeSabre that was part of a funeral procession at the time of the collision. There were seven people in the vehicle. The other two vehicles included a Lincoln Continental as well as a beverage delivery truck.

Reports state that four people were trapped inside one of the vehicles, leading to firefighters using machinery to remove them. In addition to the adults injured in the accident, a three or four year old and 15-year-old were also injured.

Witnesses who were on the scene at the time report that the LeSabre was struck by the Continental after passing a truck. Fire officials at the scene called for an EMS Plan I response, which sent a minimum of five ambulances for assistance.

The victims were taken to a variety of hospitals around the area, with one child transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn; two adults to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital; two people to Mount Sinai Hospital; and one to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. One person involved in the accident refused medical attention following the accident.
